Free form Mosaic

This is one of my newer bags, I've been having a blast combining techniques. The Circles & Squares of this "Mosaic" bag are felted pieces that have been sewn on and embellished with embroidery, beads and sequins. The rest is punch needled with varying yarns, some hand dyed, some commercially prepared yarns. I really adore free form punching, I was really inspired by a free form beading class I took with Robin Atkins if you ever get the chance to take a class from her, don't hesitate. She also has several books that are not only informative but inspirational.
Wow, it's been a while! I thought I'd try this again. A place for personal as well as professional insights. My newest find is The Welcome Mat, a place for Rug Hookers of all kinds to meet and get inspiration. Hopefully I can figure out how to get the button on this page!

new website!

I have, with the help of my wonderful husband, finally gotten a website up and going! I've got my class listings as well as a supplies page and gallery. It is still a work in progress, but it's another start. Let me know what you think. http://www.woolywalkers.com/index.html

I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays and taking time to tell someone how much they are loved! Cheers, Una
PS Chum, this post is for you!

Flower Hat

This hat was made by felting on a ball. The Fiber is mostly Merino Wool with some sparkly Angelina-type fiber thrown in. It has a hand stitched brim edge. Zoe wanted her turn to wear a hat, I think she's pretty darn cute! SOLD

Rain Lily

Ok, so it's not felting! This is a surprise Rain Lily (Zephyranthes) that I planted as a bulb last week. I received it along with some other lovelies from a garden exchange group that I belong to. Thank-you "flowersun"!

now, back to felting...

Punch Hooked Flower Bag

It seems I've been using fiber in different ways lately. This is my newest, a punch hooked bag using over-dyed wool yarn and 1/4" wool fabric strips. The lining is hand dyed cotton and the handle is the same yarn that I used in the bag tightly twisted. Boy, am I in trouble, this was too much fun! SOLD

Locker Hooked Pillows

Locker hooking was originally a rug making technique that was done with using burlap backing, rag strips, a crochet hook and a large bodkin type needle. A clever Australian reintroduced the craft in the 1970's creating a "Locker Hook" which is shaped like a crochet hook, but with the large eye built right in. He also started using conventional latch hook canvas and with the abundance of fleece in Australia, used rovings.
I love the spontaneous color variations I get with hand dyed roving. The top two pillows are hand-dyed roving, the bottom left is commercially dyed and the bottom right is natural and hand-dyed roving. 14" removable pillows, cotton or hemp backing.
